Waulkmill Cider is a small company producing traditional still Cider and fresh Apple Juice in Dumfries and Galloway .

We are situated in beautiful countryside between Langholm and Eskdalemuir, with its large areas of uncultivated mossy pastures, sparkling burns and grazing sheep, while Eskdalemuir's night sky is one of the best in Europe for stargazing.

Waulkmill itself is an original mill that once played a role in the local textile industry, while Langholm is home to the famous Edinburgh Woolen Mill. The surrounding area is steeped in history, with remains of prehistoric stone circles and Bronze Age forts, through to the well known Borders Rievers, and the area boasts such famous sons as master-builder Thomas Telford (1757-1834) and Scots poet Hugh McDiarmid(1892-1978). The family of the astronaut Neil Armstrong hail from this area, and he visited Langholm in 1972 to be given the freedom of the town.

All in all, we feel this is an ideal place to re-invent the art of cider making in Dumfries and Galloway. Every Apple used for our Cider is collected from within DUMFRIES AND GALLOWAY. A wide Selection of Apple varieties are available and we use as many of them as we can to enhance the texture and tastes within the Cider.Scottish Variety Apples will play a Major Role as we grow our Business and plant more Orchards. The long term aim is to have a high Proportion of Classic Scottish Variety Apples make up the bulk of the Cider, blended with Local Crab Apples and Traditional Cider Apples.

Indeed there are plenty of apple trees flourishing in the local area and a number of local estates still have parts of ancient walled orchards, from where we have been very lucky to be able to collect some of our apples, and this we are sure will be reflected in the character and simplicity of our Cider. Our Cider, once fermented, is stored in a selection of wooden rum barrels and cider barrels, constructed using a mixture of oak and chesnut. These also give a unique texture and body to the finished product. Depending on the season and the natural sugar/yeast levels, we don't like to add anything to our Cider that we don't need to.

So,at last ......  a true Scottish Cider, grown, picked and fermented right here in Dumfries and Galloway.

Our Cider and Apple Juices can be found at a number of Farmers Markets , Fayres and Festivals throughout the year. ( A current list of retail partners who stock Waulkmill Apple Juice can be found on our Apple Juice page.)

We also take our mobile press, who we have named "Pip", to selected events to demonstrate how we press fresh Apple Juice.

We aim to increase our product range over the next twelve months, depending on our customers' requirements. If you would like to contact us or indeed visit us our details can be found on the 'Contact us' page.

At Waulkmill we want you to enjoy our Cider: we do!.. But as with any alcoholic beverage, please drink sensibly.
